where-is-the-world-2108 – Where is the World

Kyla from Where is the World joins us on the show to talk about why she travels with her family and some of the cool places they’ve experienced including over 5 weeks in West Africa with no electricity or running water where they stayed.
Kyla talks about how they enjoy places of the beaten path, 3rd world countries and non-touristy places where they’re all forced out of their comfort zones. This helps the kids learn how to be flexible in any situation She writes on their blog “This doesn’t mean we never go to more traditional travel locales, we find an excuse to go to Paris whenever we can! It just means making an effort to travel to places a little less typical and a little less touristy.”

There’s a sense of entitlement with kids growing up in this age. Kyla talks about how family travel, especially to new places that gets you out of your comfort zone, can help kids (and adults!) be more grateful for what they have when they see how other people around the world live.

Her advice for others starting out: Begin with where you’re comfortable with. Check out your local museums, public transit and learn how to figure things out. That’s what you do in other countries.  It’ll change the way you look at things. Also Just do it!! :)
